Izzy Video 058 – Working With Slow Motion

Creating slow motion effects from video can be challenging. This week’s Izzy Video explores various aspects of creating slow motion effects.

Included is a brief introduction to Motion’s “Optical Flow” which is an incredible new tool. I was amazed at the results when I first saw what this little tool could do. You’ll see what I mean. The results speak for themselves.

    Wow, that’s an original suggestion! I like it. Don’t be surprised if you see an episode on lighting for the iSight, or any webcam really. ;-)

    Thanks for the podcasts!
    FYI, Izzy Video 58 is not copying to my ipod. I get an error stating that the video “was not copied because it cannot be played on this iPod.” All previous IV’s copy fine. Oddly, I also noticed that some videos that I created myself sometime back are now unable to be copied iPod and I’m getting the same error as above. These are videos that I was once able to copy to my iPod fine, but now no longer work. I suspect that Apple changed something in a recent iPod update.

    I need to go back and encode a couple episodes again. I used a different method than usual, and I’m thinking that’s probably what went wrong. Sorry about the trouble!

    Hey David,
    Izzy can confirm, but I think that’s a revver player thing, not something in the video.

    HOWEVER, it would be very cool if you could do something like that with Quicktime. To my knowledge it cannot be done. The alternative is the lame open web page in the background without the user’s permission you can do with Real or WMV(lame lame lame). I don’t see any harm in just presenting a link tho.

    What camera did you use to shoot @ 250fps? I use a canon XL2 max is 1/60 fps. I usually shoot at 24fps for the “film look” at 60 fps the slow motion is smoother but the “News room” look is prominent. I use a mac pro but because I won fexpensive prosumer equpiment I can’t afford any more “film look” soft ware. Any input?
