You can actually do either. You can white balance on a gray card or a white card. The important things is that there&#039;s no color in it, and of course there isn&#039;t inside of the gray side of a card. A gray card is also excellent for setting exposure.

One of the things that&#039;s so handy about an 18% gray card is that you can use it for both.
