Izzy Video 121 – How to Shoot Video Outdoors, Part 1

Get the Flash Player to see this video.

This is a popular request I get: Will you please show different ways of shooting video outdoors, when you don’t have all the comforts of a studio?

That’s a big request, and there’s a lot to cover, so this installment of Izzy Video will get the ball rolling. This one is all about diffusion. I’ve touched on the subject in the past, but this episode goes more in-depth and does a better job of covering gear.

UPDATE: Several people have asked me to post a link to the Scrim Jim Kit that I show in this video. Here it is: Scrim Jim Broadcast Location Kit – Large

You can watch Izzy Video episode 121 here.

As I mention in the video, this is the first part of a series of tutorials on the subject of shooting video outdoors. There’s plenty to talk about, so there’s no way to fit it into one episode. If you’re new to Izzy Video, I recommend you subscribe to the RSS feed in iTunes to ensure you get the future episodes.

If you want to see every episode in the series, you’ll need to be an Izzy Video Member. Members always get more. If you’re new, you might want to learn about an Izzy Video Membership.

    Hi,
I just wanted to say nice show and good information.
One sad thing though was the time to load the video. Have you tried flv?
I think that can increase viewers.
    Thanks and regards,
    Carl Jungerhem

I was little too fast on my response. I saw another of your vids now where you said that you have to be a premium user to have faster access to the vids.

    Hi, Bernie!

I updated the post and added a link to the Scrim Jim Kit. Thanks for the suggestion, and thanks for watching!

    All the best,

    Hi Carl,

I want to clarify that when I said that members get faster downloads. It’s not because they are flash files. They’re still enormous files, so they take a while to download, but they’re hosted on my own server so the bandwidth is a little faster speed. The free videos are hosted on Libsyn, which becomes slower bandwidth as the files become older.

I hope that’s not confusing. I had considered posting flash versions of my videos before, but in the end, I decided to say with Quicktime because I prefer the quality.

Thanks for watching, and for taking the time to leave a comment!

    All the best,

    Izzy

Izzy, your videos on my computer continuously freeze up every few seconds…I don’t think it is my computer as it only happens with your videos…love your site

  7. Izzy says:

    Hi, Oscar!

Thanks for the feedback. When you say the videos freeze up, are you referring to the embedded flash videos in the blog posts, or are you referring to the Quicktime versions?

On my computer, the flash versions will sometimes hesitate, but the Quicktime versions don’t. Curious to hear your response…

Thanks for watching, and thanks for the kind words!

The quality of the video is nice, but in my opinion, it is not worth the excessive download time. I am a teacher and wanted to pick and choose a few videos to show my class but it was frustrating. It would be nice to at least have an option for quicker downloading vidoes. Otherwise, great stuff! Thanks for procucing these videos.

    Hi, Tab!

Thanks for the feedback and for the kind words! :-)

When you refer to the download time, are you referring to the embedded video in the post or the Quicktime video link? Or both?

I’m not sure. I’m new to the site and just became a member a week or two ago. I have only tried the free videos so far like the one above, and it takes forever to load. I would just like an option for a faster loading video for my students to be able to click on and watch.
