* PubFilms is kind enough to sponsor this competition. They’re doing some pretty interesting stuff. I highly recommend you check them out.

P.S. If you have a short film already in the can, you might as well enter it here. If you don’t have one done, maybe this can help give you sufficient incentive to get going on it. :-)

* Grand Prize is available to US residents only. There are other rules like this, so please read closely when you register.

    Hello Izzy…

All my life I have been excluded from contests for one reason or another, usually that I am not a citizen or a resident of one country or another… so… Here we go again… If I would enter your contest, I cannot win Grand Prize… I might have the best video, but I would not be awarded the Grand Prize… (So whoever does win the Grand Prize might in fact have the second best video… or perhaps talented Izzy Video members in New Zealand or Argentina or Europe or Asia don’t enter the contest to begin with… which lowers the quality of all the videos that enter the contest…)

There is NO REASON why your rules should state that “Grand Prize is available to U.S. residents only.” If you don’t want to give the Grand Prize to a foreign resident, then don’t pretend that the winner is the best in the world, or don’t make a contest.

You want to limit the airplane ticket to the cost of a ticket to Arizona from within the U.S., then put a limit… $200 for airplane ticket, or whatever…

But there is NO REASON why somebody who lives in Vancouver or Montreal or Mexico City (all closer to Arizona than Maine or Massachusetts are to Arizona…) or Japan or England or Siberia can enter the contest and can win SECOND prize but not the GRAND PRIZE… even if you don’t GIVE the person the prize.

“Congratulations… You win, but there is no prize… Your video was the BEST… The person who won the free airplane ticket was second best…”

Or else, you should depreciate the value of the Grand Prize winner and state “this was the best video limited to residents of the United States… the best video in the world was: ___ who could not receive the Grand Prize…”

But of course I know you are not going to do that.

And by the way… I am a paid member and I am not able to get past the gates to view videos… the sign in process does not recognize my e-mail etoussier@yahoo.com which I am certain is correct, or my password…

Sometimes I get in through a back door, somehow, and I have been able to view some videos… but I have to find the original e-mail you sent me when I signed up, to confirm that I am a paid member… and there is a back door somewhere on that page… Otherwise, I can’t get in through the Members login box.

And I wish you would make a lifetime subscription possible, because it is going to take me a long, long, long time to view all your 113 videos… Believe it or not, I have only had time to view about 10 in three months…

    Thanks for listening. Ellis Toussier

    Hi, Ellis!

I don’t know all the reasons why the contest isn’t extended to people outside the US. I believe there might be countries that have laws which makes contests difficult. I’m now sure. Anyway, sorry about that!

Regarding your membership login information. I just emailed it to you. If you’re using your email to login in, then that would be why it wasn’t working. Everyone has a unique username and password. Please let me know if you continue to have trouble.

I’ve considered the lifetime membership. Right now I’ve opted for simplicity by offering the six month membership only.

    Thanks for all the feedback!

    All the best,

    Izzy

I recently entered my film submission “The Fallen” to your competition and currently I have the most votes and highest rank in the competition for my short film. I am very upset and disappointed to hear now that even if I did win, I would have to be a U.S resident to win the grand prize ? so please explain what happens if the winner of the grand prize with the most votes and highest rank is not a u.s resident ? do I receive nothing for meeting the goal of highest votes and rating?
This really is an inconvenience because this way you are limiting your entries and people who would love to enter who will mostly be from outside the U.S probably wont. I hope changes are made of some sort….

Hi Mohammed, congratulations on the success of your short film!

I know when PubFilms accepts entries, they have contributors read the rules beforehand. Also, they clearly told me, and I clearly told my viewers that the grand prize is available to US Residents Only. Because the rules were clear from the beginning, it’s not fair to ask for changes now. I don’t believe there will be any changes. I don’t know what PubFilms has planned if someone from outside the US wins. Because your film is doing so well, my recommendation is that you contact them and find out how that would work…

Congrats again on the success of your short film, and sorry about your frustration!

It was stated in the rules that is true but NOT clearly. It was stated in small print that was barely readable infact there isnt even a prize or awards page anywhere on the website that you can check out. Anyway it does not appear like much can be done. I guess I’ll just wait and see what happens. My other question is when will the voting period end ? Will it go on for months ? weeks ? days ?
    thanks

    Mohammed

I believe the voting ends around the 15th, but I wasn’t able to find the page that explains that either. I’m not sure where it went, because I remember seeing it there before.

I sent Jeff at PubFilms an email asking him when the voting ends. When I find out, I’ll post it here. Sorry about the confusion.

    All the best,

    Izzy

Hi Izzy, It was great participating and all :), I do believe though according to my rank which is the highest in the competition and my number of votes I am the runner up, if i remember correctly I still receive an award ? right ?
Well, let me know because Im confused as I didnt get contacted by Pubfilms about this matter/
