Izzy Video 061 – Light Modifiers

izzyvideo61

Light modifiers, just like they sound, are tools you can use to modify your light source. For example, you might use them to change the color or shape of your light.

In this installment of Izzy Video, I briefly discuss barn doors, color gels, and a snoot.

This video tutorial is for members only.

    Hi Izzy,
another great episode! Thanks for all your hard work.

Listen, I had a general question or perhaps idea for future episode. How do you take all the little pieces of great footage that you create and make a single, sensible film? I’m not talking about a big 90 min. production, more like the 3-5 minute short that you could use as a videocast. It looks soooo much easier than it is!

This is something that I’d love to move my podcast into – videocasts, but have sort of run into trouble getting all my little bits of film together in a way that make sense. It’s not as easy to tell a story with video/film than I thought.

So, how do you plan (pre-production), film (production) and edit together (post-production)your episdoes (or short films in general..perhaps with a focus on family) in 5 words or less. Just kidding about that “5-words or less” thing!

    Best regards from Germany,
    Taural

    Hi Izzy,
I have discovered your podcast just a couple of days ago, and I’d like to let you know that this is the podcast I enjoyed the best. Somehow you have worked out a perfect format for the production – it is short enough, so I do not pospone watching an episode forever; it is informative enough, so the viewer can learn something even from the episodes which are not of his primary interest; and you and your kids are so cute :)
Well done, and please, keep on doing it!

A couple of ideas for episodes (I would really love to hear your advice on this):
    1) Image stabilisation, and what you can do to save your shaky footage.
    2) How do you make these intros to the podcat? (Motion I guess, but is there any cheaper option for people who can afford only Final Cut Express)?

    Excellent podcast, my deepest respect!

    Cheers,
    Vlad.

    Hi Izzy,

Have you ever tried Black Wrap. For shaping light. I don’t have the money right now for a good light kit. So I have been using lights from a Hardware Store. But I want more control like barndoors. I have heard of Black Wrap, which is black Aliminum foil – I guess. And thought it might work for my shoots.

You have inspired me to make my own podcast. The tutorials are great and I know you said you were looking for music on your interview with production buzz. That is something I do. So let me know.

Check out my DIY video/audio/photography video podcast.
