Learn Final Cut Express 4

Welcome to Learn Final Cut Express 4!

This course is a series of free video tutorials designed to help you learn Final Cut Express.

I created this to address the many requests I’ve received from viewers who have upgraded from iMovie, but haven’t made the switch to Final Cut Pro. There are many, many people using Final Cut Express, but not a lot of free training videos on the web to help you learn it. This should solve that problem! :-)

* Please note that I’m using Final Cut Express 4 in these videos, although much of the content would apply to older versions as well.

The way the course works is simple:

  1. Download the most recent version of Quicktime here. It’s free. Even if you think you have the most recent, please check anyway. Apple releases new versions frequently.
  2. Download the media files (this one and this one) to use throughout the course.
  3. Go through each lesson in order, clicking on either HD or Small depending on the video size you’d like to watch (I recommend you try HD first, and then resort to Small if the HD doesn’t work on your system).

The course consists of 16 video tutorials, totaling a little over 2.5 hours.

Okay, let’s get started…

NEW! You can now download the entire video course in one large zip file so you can store the videos on your computer, burn them to a CD, and so on. It’s a large download, totaling 460MB. Here is the link:

What people are saying about this course…

Your course on Final Cut Express 4 is far better than the one at the Apple site. I feel like I’m ready to start editing my video now. You are the best!
- Steve Pennell

A BIG thumbs up. My first look at FCE left me feeling that I had a very steep learning curve ahead. But after a couple of evening with the free tutorial I’m really looking forward to making some good home movies. It’s given me the ability to experiment and learn now that I understand the basics.
Brilliant!!
- Many thanks, Glen (UK)

Wow, that was incredible. I just switched over from WinXP/Sony Vegas 8 Pro to an iMac and FCE. I can’t believe how much I learned from your FCE tutorials.
- Marlo Casabar

Your FCE course was FANTASTIC and I am even asking my wife for a membership to your site for Father’s Day. Your episodes are fun to watch and even easy for a newcomer like me to understand.
- Jason Swick

I’ve recently become interested in photo/video editing as a hobby. I just finished watching your introductory course on Final Cut Express and I have to say that it was an excellent tutorial.
- Ariel Alonso

I want to send you my thanks for this Final Cut Express course. I just completed the final lesson, and I think I learned more in your course than I did by going through the complete Apple Pro Training Course book. That did not touch on any of the motion tab features, or on compositing, so this was all new and exciting information to me. You made everything clear and easy to understand. Thank you for being so generous with your time and knowledge.
- Kathy

I watched some of your video tutorials and the learning final cut express and i have learnt a lot more in the few minutes of watching your video than what my lecturer has taught me on the same subjects in film school. She just runs through slides while you visually show it and explain it,…AMAZING!!!
- Babajide Odueko

Izzy, your FCE tutorial is a godsend. I’ve been wanting to learn FCE for almost two years, and have never had the time to get into it. Your tutorial changed all of that this afternoon.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. You’re a real pro, and you helped me immensely.
- Tim Glinatsis

The Final Cut video was great, easy to understand. It was a great seminar. Hope more videos to come. Thank you!
- Eric B.

Thanks for setting me straight on FCE. I have really struggled as I have not found a decent resource – till now. I went through all your tutorials on a snowy, cold New Zealand day and in the last week have put together videos of the family from tapes recovered pre 86. Thanks for explaining everything really well. Makes a big difference to have someone whom doesn’t assume we know a lot of the buzzwords.
- Richard

I just wanted to thank you for your absolutely stunning tutorials of Final Cut Express! Even though I’m more inclined on going into film-making than podcasting but nonetheless, the tutorials prove to be extremely intricate and to the point all the while being amazingly simple to follow. In my opinion, it is absolutely impossible for a person to watch the series and not be able to work around FCE with his or her eyes closed! I mean you have a voice that easy on the ears, and clear enough to ensure that any and all information gets through to the viewer. Thank you sir!
- George A.

Hi, Just wanted to say a huge thank you for taking the time and effort to produce such great tutorials. FCE seems so much less intimidating now!
- Max

Thanks for all the kind words, everyone!
