I’ve received a similar question from several people: “I already have Final Cut Pro X. Do I need Motion 5 too?”
That depends on your needs and the kind of work you want to do with your software, but my opinion is that Motion is a great addition to your toolbox. It’s very inexpensive (about $50 on the Mac app store), and it’s super powerful.
For many motion graphics projects (titles, animations, transitions, lower thirds, outros, etc.), I love to use Motion. It has a lot of tools that are designed specifically for this kind of thing that Final Cut Pro X doesn’t have.
Motion and Final Cut Pro make a great team. (And yes, I recommend getting Compressor too. It’s also inexpensive and gives you plenty of options for compression.)
In this new tutorial, I demonstrate a simple way to create a layered animated text effect. And I use a tool in Motion that isn’t available in Final Cut Pro X.
I hope you find it helpful!
