Izzy Video 157 – How to Convert Old Analog Video to Digital Video

You need Adobe Flash Player to view this video.

A couple weeks ago I mentioned in my newsletter that I was turning old VHS and 8mm video into digital video to store on hard drives. Since then, I’ve received many emails from viewers asking me to show how to convert analog video to digital video.

This members-only edition of Izzy Video will show you the exact steps to take.

As an additional note, I want to emphasize that I feel this is a high priority for people in the world today. We don’t know how much longer we’ll be able to get ahold of VCR’s and 8mm video cameras. If you have old video, please don’t procrastinate. Convert that old footage to digital. This will give you a digital master you can use for a number of different things in the future.

Enjoy the video. You can download the trailer here.

If you’re new to Izzy Video, you should watch some of the free videos so you can see if it might make sense for you to become a member.

    Hello Izzy,
I digitized my 8mm, Hi8, and VHS, using the ADVC110, however some of the footage looks horrible, like old worn out video (because of the quality of the tape and not the ADVC110). Is there a way to clean up the video to make it look viewable to the audience? I would also like to incorporate some of these old video with some HD recordings to make one video presentation and make it look a little better in the transitions in terms of the quality looking as close to the HD as possible. Thank You in Advance!
    Best Regards,
    Robert

    Hi Robert,

I don’t know of a way to clean up old video, other than running it through deinterlacing filters and color grading filters — which might help some. That’s an interesting subject for me to research though. I’ll let you know if I discover anything helpful…
