Izzy Video 155 – How to Shoot Video with a Kodak Zi8

You need Adobe Flash Player to view this video.

This is a simple tutorial that gives you some tips to help you shoot better video with a Kodak Zi8. This is the first video on the subject, and because I know many of you have this camera, I’m planning more tutorials on this camera in the future.

This one is for the members. You can watch the trailer here.

Izzy, what type of SD card are you using for your zi8? We got one for Hudson for his birthday and we’re just not getting a decent frame rate. I heard that was an issue if you’re not using a super fast card. Do you know anything about this?

Actually, the footage may have recorded at 30fps and just isn’t playing back at 30. Maybe the old Power-PC can’t handle 720?

I love shooting with my Kodak Zi8, but I’m having all kinds of issues getting the footage to import into FCP 6. Any ideas?

    Hi Dan,

    Sorry about the delayed response.

My guess is that a Power-PC would struggle with HD footage. Also, make sure you transcode the video before you edit it. The native file format isn’t great for editing in FCE or FCP. I’d recommend using something like MPEG Streamclip to transcode to AIC for Final Cut Express, or Prores422 for Final Cut Pro.

    I hope that helps!
