In Bed for Three Days

Hello, friends!

I had minor surgery on Friday, so I’ll be spending the next few days in bed. Why do I tell you this?

  1. I hope you’ll understand why I may not get to Izzy Video this weekend (even though I’m committed to producing them more regularly).
  2. Maybe I’ll get your sympathy vote over at Podcast Alley. :-)
  3. It explains why I’m spending so much time practicing my (beginner’s level) web coding skills on this site.

You’ll probably notice a lot of changes to the website, because yes, I have that much time on my hands. And this begs the question: How in the world did people recover from surgery before computers existed? They must have been so bored!

Hey Izzy .. hope to be fine soon ..

I think that the old design was better than this one.

    Keep the good work

I am not a fan of dark backgrounds, so I like this look a better. It might still need a little adjusting. I know getting it just right is not the easiest thing.

Since many of us have been helped tremendously by your tutorials and many of us will be praying for your quick recovery :)

I generally find that illness are a message from life to just slow down, evaluate what is happening with one’s life and regroup till the next illness :)

So smell the flowers, take in the fresh air, spend time with the family, and we will still pray for your quick recovery :) Kumar…

Hi Izzy, get well soon. I am also laid up in bed with the flu, using my computer to distract me.
I looked on your FAQ but couldnt find anything regarding your computer hardware setup.
I was wondering if you or any one you know has a MacMini and if they are satisfactoy for video editing. I can’t afford a full sized mac, and dont want another laptop.
    Thanks,
    Tom

Tom, Personally I’ve never used a Mac Mini for editing. My guess is that for basic editing, it would work fine. But rendering would be slow.

If you go to an Apple Store, they’ll likely have Final Cut Pro installed on one of their machines. You could try it before you buy!

    Any feedback from readers?

Hey, Tom. About the video editing thing with the mac mini, let me tell you my story about my low cost video editing system. On the year 2002, the year I graduated from high school, my grad present was an eMac 700 MHz with 512MB RAM and upgraded the optical drive to a Pioneer DVD writer. I also have a firewire external drive w/250 Maxtor hard drive. I’ve ran Final Cut Pro versions 2, 3, & HD(4.5), DVD Studio Pro versions 2 & 3, iLife 04 & 05. I made lots of videos and DVDs like about over 62 of them and to tell you the truth, rendering was slow and so I had to leave the eMac run overnight to encode or render.

On Feb 2006, I purchased my Mac mini 1.5 GHz PowerPC, later upgraded RAM to 1 GB crucial memory. This time I can do more rendering faster. I really noticed the difference in speed and I was like playing the Apple HD trailers(480p). Now, the FCP versions running on this machine was 5, 5.1. Right now it’s running version 6.

Tom, sounds like you didn’t purchase your mac mini, right? If you do, you’ll get the intel version and FCP is universal already so that means rendering and/or encoding will fly faster than my 1.5 GHz PowerPC machine.
