Izzy Video 038 – How I Do My Podcast

izzyvideo38

I received many requests for this particular topic. I realize that there are plenty of “how to make a podcast” type of articles out there, so it probably doesn’t make sense to add another one.

I couldn’t resist. Making a podcast is easy, and this ten minute video will show you exactly how I do it. You can use the same process if you want, although there are many alternative ways to accomplish the same thing.

This is the type of tutorial I recommend you view a couple times. Maybe watch it once all the way through, and then a second time, pausing as you go, so you can actually do the different steps described inside.

It’s a little technical, so I hope you enjoy it.

You can get the video here.

    Cool.

I actually wanted to check out WordPress after I heard Leo Laporte talk about it. And now I don’t need to install it just to try it out. Thank you!

I lost my job a few weeks ago, so I couldn’t keep my 7 year old website, but if anyone is looking for a really cool webhosting offer, please check this out:

    http://www.servage.net/

75000 MB. Web Space- 1110 GB Transfer
    Unlimited FTP Accounts- FTP Access
    1000 MySQL Databases (v4 & v5)

Just a few things why I like this service, BUT, its only 7,50 Dollars US per month!

    OK, enough about advertising.

Israel, are you going to do a podcast about HOW you do your podcast? Like what Mics you use, Camera, Software etc.? Because I thought thats what this episode was going to be about. Anyway, great job as always! Keep it up.

This is definitely one of my top 10 podcasts!

    Hey,

Myself and a few other people I have spoken to did not get this podcast. I mean, it cut off at around 25% of the way in, and didn’t play anymore. I have reset my cache and tried to download this a number of times, yet it does not seem to want to download or play past around 25%, when you click on “One-click installs”.

And this video I want to see more than anything! I’m wondering if you can upload this once again, or even email it to me? Or provide me with an alternate location to obtain this video.

Many thanks! Keep up the awesome podcast!

    Dear Mr. Hyman,

I found your Izzy Video podcast a few weeks ago and have been haveing the best time watching them.
I really enjoyed this episode. You de-mystified the process and I’m ready to try and come up with a podcast myself.
Thank you for all your hard work!

I just want to say that I love your podcast! Great job on the tutorials! I’m a multi media major and these really help to keep me sharp and up to date on stuff!

Also, when I read the title of the latest podcast, “How I do my podcast,” I was hoping that it would be a behind the scenes type thing. Like a camera aimed at you while using a camera shooting your kids or something, then an over the shoulder type thing while editing… I was also hoping for an “equipment list.” I know you use an XL2 (or 1?) because I think you mentioned that, and we also know you use Final Cut Pro. I guess I just wanted a more back stage look at it. Great info though! Keep it up!

Izzy, this was a great video. But I’m a little like Mike. Although I’m pretty clear on the acquisition part of the process I’m new to the output part. I mean, once edited in Final Cut do you use Compressor? If so, what settings do you use? It’s great to experiment but sometimes, as you may know, it quicker to get the tip from someone who’s work you have seen and want your output to be virtually the same.

Thanks and keep the videos coming.

Hey thanks, that was a very helpful podcast. I’m starting my own vodcast so this will be immensely helpful.

I’ve also been wondering if you could feature more about the gear you use, specifically your camera, your tripod, maybe other things like a stabilizer or monopod that might be useful for prosumer users. Also, I notice you used a couple of loops from Garageband – any tips on that as well? Music production is a huge part of what I do with my videos.

Thanks again, keep up the good work, and I’ll keep watching!

I just recently purchased a Canon GL-1, I am trying to do lighting on a budget, but it’s not working out, I have to spend minimum $500.00 for some lights.
Anyways I love the look of your podcast and I think that with some new skills (I use to do proffesional photograph)I could do something decent, but I was wondering what kind of camera do you use.
I would like to know what is the best this camera could produce. I know that it depends on the scene and the understanding of the person running the camera, but I wish that I could see some refrence videos that shows the entire set up (camera, lights, etc (brands and everything) and shows the results, then I would have something to shoot for.

    Hello Izzy…
Although this is Izzy Video 38, it is one of the first for me, since I signed up recently… This is a great tutorial, and I am sure it will help me tremendously… but I have a more basic question: which camera settings should we use for the INTERNET? I had a High Definition Canon HV20 until I lost it, now I am going to buy another camera… But the Canon HV20 has many settings… should we use wide screen, should we use high definition or low definition? Which is better for the internet? Thanks, sorry for the amateur questions. Ellis2ca

    Hi, Ellis!

First of all, thanks for becoming a member!

Your question is a good one, but the answer is overly-simple. You can shoot with whatever settings you want because it’s not the SHOOTING settings that matter so much. It’s the COMPRESSION settings you use later when you’re transcoding the video for posting to the web. For more clarity on this, I suggest you watch my show on Compression which is episode 66. That will likely help you… :-)
