Filming A Motorcycle Ride From A Diy Rig

I film a lot of motorcycle action and I'd love to have a 'ghost' shot from the camera as if it's following me, slightly behind and slightly above like a close bird (see attached image) - I've had all kinds of thoughts about making my own special rig, I mounted an old tripod on some foam to the back of my bike - the position was ok but the vibration made it unwatchable!... I don't think a standard 'stedycam' type thing would work because of the airflow. I would love to hear from anyone who has attempted anything similar. I have the option of mounting a very small (VIO) camera or DSLR....
