Hi to all,

New member here. Before you throw me some possible solutions please know that I am a still photographer so make it simple.

So.. I got the Sony AX 2000 camera from a newspaper and all the settings are set and I am able to record video etc. It has an external mic and I bought the XLR connector. From what I can tell the mic records but when I test it on the camera I don't hear a difference. Meaning, I did a small clip with the shotgun connected, and then without it, and on the playback mode the sound is the same. Now, do I need to disable the internal mic? If yes, how I do that? I think I did it once but still no change in quality. I was recording in a room.

There are also some setting in LINKED, SEPARATE ..what are these settings? Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome to the forums.
The audio control panel is on the left side of the camera under a cover. On it you will find the input switches. If you want left and right channels to use the external microphone plug the mic into input one and switch both inputs to input one. Here is a link to a PDF version of the manual.
You will find the audio instructions on pages 39 & 40.

Hi,

Thanks for the help. I did set it up and I just found out the external mic does no work. For some reason this particular mic has a male 3.5mm ( I think) end and not an XLR. I went to a video store to get a female to XLR and 2 stores in NYC did not have it. The game me an 3.5. adapters to connect the mic end then a male to XLR. I believe that creates the proble? I have what we need at school and I will test it this week. Now, inside the audio settings it has XLR and an option of Lined and separate. Do you think I need to se those right?

Thanks

If you are using one external microphone as your only audio input source then you probably want to link the audio gain settings. This will assure that the signal from the external microphone gets recorded into both left and right channels equally.

This is crazy. I have done everything you suggested, the XLR is Linked. On the left side both are set to input and I even played with variations but nothing. I think I have to find a mic with an XLR end.

Is the camera capturing audio from the internal mic still or is it not recording any audio now? What kind of microphone are you using? Can you give me a make and model? Does it require a battery to operate?

Well, I found another mic I had for a digital recorder, attached it to the XLR adapter and it worked. I guess mic is shot. The internal mic work fine. Thanks for the help and I am pretty sure I will use you again. :)
