Izzy Video 052 – Focus Using Blur

izzyvideo52

I’m focusing more on the creative side of video in this new installment of Izzy Video.

You can use a Gaussian Blur in a number of ways, but my purpose in this video podcast is simply to expose you to some new possibilities. It’s a brief Izzy Video because I’m just throwing out some ideas. In the future, I’ll show how to create the effect.

How do you use a Guassian Blur? Let me know in the comments…

This video is available to members only.

I used Gaussian blur on a project I finished over the weekend. I had a JPG of crushed velvet to use as a background for my titles, but it was much too “defined”. I added Gaussian blue on the JPG to soften its look — the titles look GREAT on that background, and stand out really well.

Also, I had created a small video of autumn foliage here in Alabama, and for my last shot used a scene of a flaming red maple tree against a sea of evergreens. I used Gaussian blur to “defocus” that scene right before I faded out.

    Hi, Izzy -

I got my first camcorder, a Panasonic PV-GS250, two months ago, and since then your tutorials have really helped me get comfortable shooting and editing film as a novice. I’ve been having so much fun, in fact, that this month my wife and I launched our own video podcast about Pilates. (My wife owns a Pilates studio in Bend, Oregon.)

As our two episodes show, I’m still struggling with lighting, framing shots, audio…you get the idea. But your podcast has helped make ours better.

    So thanks.
