Izzy Video 026 – Entrances and Exits

In this video tutorial, I demonstrate an easy way to create natural transitions by having the subject enter and exit the frame during different shots.

By the way, thank you for all the comments on the last podcast. I’m thinking I’ll probably create the series of videos on “how to podcast” and then include them as part of a separate feed, so it won’t get in the way of the regular Izzy Videos. This seems like an appropriate compromise.

It will take me some time to create them, so I’ll let you all know once they’re done.

    Izzy: Thanks for the new episode. I’m sure that things must be busy and I’m glad you found time to put this one out.

    Again, this is exactly the kind of small tip that I find incredibly useful. I’m sure I’ll end up taking video of the family this weekend and I’m going to try and be concious of starting sooner and ending later to get the entrances and exists from the frame. (Not to mention that I’ll have to try and look for diagonal lines).

    I really find your tutorials to be informative, plainly spoken and beautifully demonstrated.

    I’m certainly going to change the way I shoot video in the future to include my subjects entering and exiting frames.

    That way I’ll use far fewer “cross dissolves” to hide jump cuts.

    Just a comment, haven’t watched too many of your video tutorials (but love all I’ve seen), but here’s another tip that goes along with this one nicely and maybe you’ve covered it early on, it’s simply: keep the camera still more often! I think it’s a tendency to move the camera around a lot, to follow the action and try to capture everything, but as you point out here, that makes editing hard, and it also makes for a dizzy viewing experience.

    Anyway, thank you so much for your website and podcasts – your site is exactly what I’ve been hoping to find!
