Izzy Video 95 - Tips on Posing

izzyvideo95

In this Izzy Video tutorial, I give some tips on posing. Paying attention to how you pose the subject of your video can make a difference in your overall image, and it also dramatically influences how they feel about the video of themselves.

Izzy Video 94 - Fixing Flat Video

izzyvideo94

This past weekend, my family went on a short road trip to Show Low, Arizona. On the way back, we stopped along the side of the road, put the video camera on a tripod, and shot some footage of ourselves. Since we were all in the picture, nobody was operating the camera. Also, an approaching storm was imminent, and I was afraid it would rain, so I rushed through the camera setup and forgot to adjust the exposure.

The footage turned out terrible. It’s too dark, flat, and unexciting.

In this installment of Izzy Video, I show a quick way to make the footage look (a little) better.

Izzy Video 93 - Color Isolation

izzyvideo93

In this premium installment of Izzy Video, I show how easy color isolation is in Apple’s Color, currently one of my favorite tools for post-production.

Color isolation gives you a lot of creative possibilities, so I hope you have fun playing with it!

Izzy Video 91 - Spill Light

izzyvideo891

Spill light can be somewhat frustrating to work with, so in this installment of Izzy Video, I review a few methods to reduce it. The tool I show in the last part of the video is particularly useful, and I highly recommend it for your setup.

Incidentally, the reason why this video has this certain “look” is because I was experimenting with special effects in Apple’s Color, and frankly I just thought I look cool with a bleach-bypass filter. Nope, there’s no other reason. Just thought it looked cool. :-)

This episode is available in iPod/iPhone format and in a Higher Quality format.

Izzy Video 90 - Color Grading

izzyvideo90

Many people are intimidated by the concept of “Color Grading”, which is the act of adjusting color in your final video image. I want to make it less intimidating.

In this installment of Izzy Video, I introduce you to Color Grading, and I get things started in Color, the new application in Final Cut Studio 2. This tutorial reviews basic color grading concepts like Primary Color Correction and Secondary Color Correction. What’s the difference? The answer is in this video.

You can get Izzy Video 90 here.

*This video is one of the most important tutorials I have done so far. I’m releasing it free via Creative Commons. You can pass it around, post it on your site, link to it, burn it to DVD, and so on. You just can’t sell it or change it, and please make sure you link back to my site or mention that I created it. Thanks!

*Update: This is a link to a higher-quality version if you want everything bigger on your screen. Bigger download, but it’s certainly easier to see.

*Premium subscribers have this one available in High Definition.

If you’re not already using Final Cut Studio 2, after watching this video, you might want to check it out. If so, please use my Amazon link right here (anything you purchase will support Izzy Video financially). Apple Final Cut Studio 2 (Mac)

Izzy Video 89 - Broad Lighting

izzyvideo89

In this installment of Izzy Video, I pick up where I left off last week, and this time I review the two-step process to accomplish “broad lighting.” This is a less popular method of lighting a face. It makes a face look wider, and it flattens the image. In Izzy Video 89, I show you how easy it is to use broad lighting.

This episode is available in iPod/iPhone format and in a Higher Quality format.

Izzy Video 88 - Short Lighting

izzyvideo88

In this installment of Izzy Video, I review the two-step process to accomplish “short lighting.” This is a very popular method for lighting a face. It makes a face look thinner, and it adds drama to the image.

Watch Izzy Video 88 to see how it’s done.

Izzy Video 85 - Light Source Sizes

izzyvideo85

The size of the light source you use when lighting a person’s face makes an enormous difference. It transforms the quality of the light. In this installment of Izzy Video I show the difference between a bare bulb, small, medium, and large Chimera light banks. Visually, this really demonstrates my point — particularly in the High Definition version of the video.

Izzy Video 84 - Anchor Points in Motion

izzyvideo84

Many of you have asked me to release some free Motion tutorials, so that’s what this week’s free Izzy Video is all about.

Motion is very powerful, and my personal opinion is the best way to learn it is one concept at a time. In this brief tutorial, I demonstrate an interesting way to use an Anchor Point in a 3D environment.

Izzy Video 80 - Intro to Particles in Motion

izzyvideo80

Several viewers have asked me how I create the intros and outros for the different shows I produce. The answer is that I use Apple’s Motion. It’s extremely powerful, and in Izzy Video episode 80, I show the basics of how to use particles in Motion. The particle emitter is very useful, but it can be overwhelming to somebody who is new to Motion. I try to make it easy for you.

I also briefly show how to create particles in a 3D environment for a very cool effect.
