For June’s second members-only video, I published a tutorial that demonstrates an advanced color correction technique in Final Cut Pro X. It shows you how to limit your color correction based on color in the video clip.
Members can find this tutorial posted in the member’s area.

I’m very excited to announce that my new Final Cut Pro X tutorial is online, and it’s free!
In a nutshell:
- 2 hours 39 minutes of training videos.
- Downloadable practice media so you can play along.
- Web-based so you can access it anywhere.
- It’s free.
If you have Final Cut Pro X, I hope you find it helpful!
All the best,
Izzy

I’ve been studying Final Cut Pro X for the past 48 hours, and I think it’s really, really good.
There are some obvious things missing in this first release for sure (just like many people online are saying), but my guess is Apple will have solutions soon.
Is it a good idea to purchase Final Cut Pro X?
I think so. For me, it will easily replace Final Cut Pro 7 (and Final Cut Express).
After using it constantly for the past couple days, here are some of my favorite things about it: (more…)

Video can be a huge hassle to manage.
- The file sizes are enormous, so they fill up your hard drives fast.
- They’re easy to move, duplicate, misplace, and generally difficult to track.
- Hard drives are notoriously unreliable, and yet we store hours and hours of valuable video assets on them.
These are just some of the problems.
Of course, when there’s problems like this, there are also solutions. The additional problem though is that existing software and hardware solutions tend to be very expensive.
The one person video shooter (professional or hobbyist) will likely not want to invest in a big expensive system.
So what do you we do?
Well, over the past several weeks I’ve been using a system that I pieced together from other methods, and it has been working well for me. A few days ago, I held a webinar to share my system, and I recorded it and posted it in the member’s area (along with the more than 180 other videos already there).
The above video is just a trailer. If you want the full version of the video (more than 30 minutes of useful information), log into the member’s area if you’re a member, or if you haven’t joined yet, go check out the membership information page.

I usually don’t make recommendations for specific video cameras, but this time I thought I’d make an exception.
It’s definitely the most common question I get:
What camera should I buy?
Why do I rarely answer it?
- I get the question so often, I don’t have time to answer it over and over and over.
- I don’t stay up-to-date on all the latest camera releases, so the only cameras I know intimately are the ones I own.
- I need a detailed understanding of how you’ll be using a camera before I can recommend one.
Most of the time if I make a recommendation at all, it’s general things to look for — instead of a specific camera.
Well, the other day I received a question similar to this:
Can you recommend a specific camera and microphone for me? I have a budget of about $2,000, and I’ll be using the camera to shoot various interviews with people at a conference I’ll be attending.
That was a good start. I knew the budget and I knew the general purpose of the camera, but I still had a few more questions. I wrote back and asked them: (more…)
