Izzy Video 064 – Channel Mixing

This week on Izzy Video, I demonstrate an interesting effect using the channel mixer filter in Final Cut Pro.
Thanks to Alex Lindsay from Pixelcorps for showing the effect on a recent episode of DL.tv.

Podcamp.az sounds really cool. Too bad I live in Texas. Do you think that we will ever have a podcamp in Texas?

Thanks for the new video tip, I am learning to use Adobe Premeire Pro – Also thanks for letting me know about DL.tv I am donating on a monthly basis to Izzyvideo and would encourage others to do so – as making videos can take a lot of time and energy. Kumar…

Please Izzy, or someone out there, help me!! How do I turn my video into black and white? I know i can turn saturation down on Color Correction, but as you said on this podcast, that does NOT look great. I have Final Cut Pro 5.0.4 and there is no channel mixing option in this version. So?! Is there any other way to do it?! Please help me!

Allan,
I really like the Film Effects plugins from Nattress. Google Nattress plugins, and I believe you’ll find a nice black and white filter there.
Hope that helps!

Izzy, your podcast is just awesome!
I’ve a question though: what version of FCP are u using? I’m on 5.1.4 and there is no trace of channel mixing. That’s too bad, ’cause I was eager to try the effect on one of my recent shorts. I checked natress, as you suggested, but didn’t find the exact equivalent. Could u give me a hint on how to find the exact pug-in which will do the trick?
Thanks from Italy

Giovanni,
I’m using the most recent version of Final Cut Studio. I think it’s called Final Cut Studio 2. Anyway, if Channel Mixing isn’t available in the old version, my recommendation would be to use Nattress’s Film Effects Plugins. They have a black and white plugin that’s interesting, as well as many other useful effects.
I’m sorry, but this just may be another reason to upgrade to the latest Final Cut version.
Thanks for watching!
