Izzy Video 058 – Working With Slow Motion

Creating slow motion effects from video can be challenging. This week’s Izzy Video explores various aspects of creating slow motion effects.
Included is a brief introduction to Motion’s “Optical Flow” which is an incredible new tool. I was amazed at the results when I first saw what this little tool could do. You’ll see what I mean. The results speak for themselves.
This video tutorial is available to members only.

First off, I wish you a good and healthy recovery. I also wanted to thank you for these amazing video tutorial series. I think I am starting to like learning about video just because of your dedication to this project.
Keep up the great work.

Ok, I looked everywhere for your email but its nowhere to be found. I thought I saw it on the website one day.
Anyway, I am wondering if you could direct me into the best way to do lighting for the firewire iSight cam? (not the built-in)
Thank you.

Tarik,
Wow, that’s an original suggestion! I like it. Don’t be surprised if you see an episode on lighting for the iSight, or any webcam really.
Thanks for the great suggestion. Also, please be aware that I have a section for “Suggestions for Upcoming Tutorials” on the wiki at izzyvideo.wikia.com. You can add any suggestions you want there!
Thanks again,
Israel

Izzy,
I would like to get in touch to give you some information about an outlet that we have just launched as an outlet for people like you and your readers (www.blackturtlemedia.com). We would like to give you some insight into what we’re trying to do and see if it is something that you’d be willing to pass along to your readers and your personal network. I didn’t see a contact link or email address so this was the best way I could think of to get in touch – I apologize if you take it as an attempt to spam your blog.
Please shoot me an email at nthurman at cvpcorp dot com – if you are interested in learning more.
Regards – Neal

Thanks for the podcasts!
FYI, Izzy Video 58 is not copying to my ipod. I get an error stating that the video “was not copied because it cannot be played on this iPod.” All previous IV’s copy fine. Oddly, I also noticed that some videos that I created myself sometime back are now unable to be copied iPod and I’m getting the same error as above. These are videos that I was once able to copy to my iPod fine, but now no longer work. I suspect that Apple changed something in a recent iPod update.

Michael,
I need to go back and encode a couple episodes again. I used a different method than usual, and I’m thinking that’s probably what went wrong. Sorry about the trouble!
Thanks for bringing it to my attention…

Thanks for the podcasts Izzy. You´re doing an excellent work and a huge help for new videographers.
Congratullations too for the new site design. Much more clear and nice layout. In relation with this, could you please explain how did you do the effect of rotate the screenshot of your site with the coloured background?
Thanks again

I’m just starting to get into making videos to present my music. Your tutorials are very helpful. Thank you for your time, effort and overall generosity of your expertise.

Dear Izzy
Thanks for the videos. As someone just starting out, the practical tips are very useful. I have a question, which is that at the end of this video there is a link to a website. How does one embed that link in a video???
Many thanks
David

Dear Izzy, in case it was not clear, I meant “How does one embed a link in a video?”
thanks

Hey David,
Izzy can confirm, but I think that’s a revver player thing, not something in the video.
HOWEVER, it would be very cool if you could do something like that with Quicktime. To my knowledge it cannot be done. The alternative is the lame open web page in the background without the user’s permission you can do with Real or WMV(lame lame lame). I don’t see any harm in just presenting a link tho.
‘njoy,
Mark

What camera did you use to shoot @ 250fps? I use a canon XL2 max is 1/60 fps. I usually shoot at 24fps for the “film look” at 60 fps the slow motion is smoother but the “News room” look is prominent. I use a mac pro but because I won fexpensive prosumer equpiment I can’t afford any more “film look” soft ware. Any input?

Why don’t the later tutorials play? I’m getting only a still picture.
