Izzy Video 002 – Depth of Field
New to Izzy Video? A few things you should know: I created this site to be a resource to help you get started and develop your skills in shooting video. I've posted more than 100 video tutorials on how to shoot and edit video. Several are free downloads, and I consistently release new tutorials every month. You'll notice that many videos are available to members only.
Finally, I recommend you subscribe to my RSS feed, or the newsletter (the form is in the sidebar) to make sure you get new videos as they're released. Thanks for visiting!

I demonstrate how to use “Depth of Field” to make your digital video look better. Depth of field controls how much of the frame is in focus. It’s commonly used to create a blurred background.

Could you post what tools you use to encode your video?

I’m doing the taping using a Canon GL2 camera. I pull the dv into an iMac G5. I use Final Cut Pro to edit and then export using the “iPod” setting for Quicktime compression.
A four minute video clip takes about an hour or so to export.
If you want more information, please let me know. I hope that helps.

Yes it’s all about DOF (Depth of Field) everybody wants it because it looks more like film. There are more expensice ways to get DOF (like the Mini35 http://www.mini35.de/ or the new Cinemek http://www.cinemek.com/) but your way is so easy!
Keep them comming.

Certain cameras, such as Panasonic’s DVX100, have ND filters built in.

Nice picture. Mayan Reviera? Aventura Spa Palace?
April 15th, 2007 at 5:45 pm
John, that’s exactly right. It’s the Aventura Spa Palace in Cancun, Mexico.

Recommend type and number of lights that could start a guy out in videography using a canon hd camcorder

Hi, Aoiri! To answer your question, I need to know what you’ll be shooting mostly.
If you’re shooting mostly faces, like my videos, then I know exactly what I’d recommend, but if you need lights because you’re shooting a short film, that’s a different story.
What will you be shooting mostly?
